Grandparents Pat & Vic

'When we lost our granddaughter Ashtyn-Lee to cancer, it was a time of despair and sorrow. We had no idea who to turn to, so when the Childhood Cancer Family Service contacted us, we found people who understood what our needs were and they invited us to join the 'Special Grandparents Group' where we are certainly treated as 'Special'. We are constantly receiving solace and friendship from meeting with other Grandparents.'

10yo Max with his family

'Over the last 18 months the CCA staff have always been there for support. This included visits during hospitalisation, phone support, massage service and family support groups. Max's brother and sister also received (and still are receiving) great support through the SIBS (Super Important Brothers & Sisters program). Without charities like CCA this difficult journey would be nearly impossible.'

4yo Logan with his family

'In the hospital, I live for the CCA visits. Sometimes we feel isolated - our family and friends can't just drop in being so far away, and they also worry about making Logan sick by accidentally bringing germs into the hospital. So when CCA visits we have the opportunity to talk and the long hours/days in the hospital are made a bit easier.'

12yo Aydan

'After my birthday we went to Bradley's Place in Victor Harbor which is CCA's retreat for children with cancer, and their families. We went fishing and had my birthday party in the playground and we went swimming at the beach with my friends. There was a pool table there and a playstation2 and a pinball machine'.

Lilah with her sisters

'When your littlest sister has spent much of her life in hospital, the opportunity to go out and be together, to enjoy each other, is so precious. The zoo, a movie, a day at an adventure park and even a trip to a photography studio have each become one of those precious opportunities. Our children, Jemima, Madeline and Lilah thank the Childhood Cancer Association and their sponsors for providing these chances to have fun together and to create memories which our family will have always.'
