Michael Rice Units & Bradley's Place

Accommodation for Country Families - Michael Rice Units

Free accommodation is provided for country families, whilst their child is undergoing treatment at the Women's and Children's Hospital in Adelaide.  The 4 'Michael Rice' units are conveniently located in Prospect and are are available to families for as long as their child remains in treatment.  Accommodation is arranged through the Social Work team at the Women's & Children's Hospital.

After many years in the planning, in March 2010, we were extremely grateful to have the support of the Edge Church, who within 6 days literally transfored the Michael Rice units into 5 star accommodation for our families.  We thank our many donors over the years who contributed to this project. Please scroll down to see footage of this transformation.

Respite Accommodation - Bradley's Place, Inman Valley

Sadly in 1991, Neil and Robyn Walker lost one of their twins, Bradley, to cancer at the age of four.

The Walker's devastating and traumatic experience helped them to realise how important support systems were for other families facing similar problems.

They turned the impact of their tragic loss into something positive and became actively involved in supporting the work of the Childhood Cancer Association and its support of other children and their families.

In 2004, with the funds raised by the Walkers and their fundraising group (The Six State Challenge Team) Bradley's Place was opened. Located at Inman Valley, the gentle sloping block is the perfect setting close to great beaches, Granite Island, Greenhills Adventure Park, Urimbirra Wildlife Park and the SteamRanger, and all in reasonable proximity to Adelaide.

The completion of the project means that children with cancer and their families now have a special place, a 'peaceful haven' away from some of the stresses and demands that come with this life changing illness.
